Last year, the i3S board of directors approved the engagement of two i3S research groups and one scientific platform in the LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework, UCL) program, a nonprofit program available for research institutions that help scientists to self-assess and to implement sustainable actions to reduce utility costs and environmental footprint in the labs.

So far, two of them have already been awarded with the bronze LEAF award. The Ageing and Aneuploidy Group was actually the first Portuguese laboratory to be certified. Soon after, the Cell culture and Genotyping scientific platform was distinguished with the same certificate.

After this successful experience, we plan to extend the program to all interested labs at i3S, with the hope of contributing to a greener science.
